If you are reading this post—congratulations on your entrepreneurship journey this far or for even thinking about becoming one. But most importantly, you may have realized that there are certain rules that most successful entrepreneurs live by. For a few lucky ones, however, things may sometimes simply fall into place without playing by any rules in the book.
However, if for some reason you never believe in the luck of the devil, then you may find these lessons far-reaching in your entrepreneurial journey.
There are no Shortcuts to engaging Professionals
They say if you think hiring a professional is expensive, try hiring an amateur. As much as most start-ups try to work on a lean budget to ensure they do not spread themselves out too thin, it would be dangerous to save money at the expense of your business survival.
When setting out your business plan, be sure to allocate professional engagement fees alongside other expenses. The knowledge and experience that professionals bring with them ensure that you start your business on the right foot through cultivating the right culture to other employees from the word go.
Time Wasting Destroys Faster than Lightning
Time wastage and procrastination have been known to be a common trait for businesses that failed with their first five years of operation. All other factors in a business such as customers, money, and ideas can be acquired if sufficient effort is put in. However, time is one of those resources you will always have a finite amount of.
One way to ensure your time is well spent is by putting a dollar price tag to every hour you spend. Ask yourself whether that wage is fair for the tasks performed and if someone else can perform them for a lesser amount, delegate and concentrate on more important revenue-generating activities.
Don’t be a Pancake
Truer words were never spoken, “Trying to be a jack of all trades results in being a master of none”. Avoid going the “pancake way” by having a broad set of skills that keep you low and flat. This only makes you know a little about everything.
As much as this may be great for team managers, it may also render you a mediocre and not excelling in anything. Basically, you are likely not to be known for anything.
Focusing on your area of strength is the ultimate weapon to not becoming a pancake entrepreneur. You want to be known for what you do best because life in the entrepreneurial world sometimes gives a small if at all any window for developing and perfecting new areas of interest.
Take Action Now…
With these key lessons and a well-thought-out plan in place, you should be able to get ahead of most hurdles in the journey of self-employment.
